The summers mean a significant raise the temperature inside your grow room. On top of that, if you have high intensity grow lights installed, the heat level can become dangerously high. In such a case, you should consider installing grow room air conditioners to help your plants beat the heat.

Ideal temperature for plant growth is 70-80oF. Temperature requirements will change as plants move from propagation stage to veg and then to flower, but normally remain within the specified range. A rise in temperature can cause dryness, and reduce the potency and smell of the buds when it is time to harvest.

High temperature can also cause other problems like PM, root rot, nutrient burn, and spider mites. There are many AC options available for grow rooms such as commercial, ceiling mounted devices, and portable. However, the best option as recommended by experts are mini-split ACs.

What are mini split ACs and their benefits?

Mini-split ACs are the most popular cooling devices when it comes to indoor gardening. These devices have two primary components: the condenser, which is installed outside to expel hot air and the air handler, which is mounted inside the room, generally on a wall, to provide cooling.

The standout benefit of mini-split ACs is that they are 30% more efficient than duct-based air conditioners. Ducting reduces cooling efficiency and requires cooling units to put in more effort for longer periods. One more benefit is that the condenser and air handler are separate from each other resulting in no addition of heat during operation.

Which mini-split AC is best?

Mini-splits are both quick connect and complex i.e., some of them can be installed easily as a DIY while others require complex HVAC installation work.

You should look for ACs with a heat pump for fighting cold during the winters. These ACs can help in heating your grow room during the cold and eliminate the need for getting a separate greenhouse heater.

The size of the AC unit will depend on your power needs. You can find 120 volt and 240 volt mini-splits. One other thing that needs to be considered is how many zones you need. Mostly, mini-splits feature only one zone but you can find units that have as many as five zones.
