The horticulture industry has been pretty excited about LED grow lighting systems – and for the right reasons. These lighting systems are well on their way to take indoor/hydroponic growing to the next level. With the rapid advancements that we see every day, indoor growing is bound to go places coupled with their current popularity. Among these advancements, LED grow lights have established themselves as the real deal in LED lighting technology. This is because they provide a full spectrum for all stages of a plant’s lifecycle.
These panels come in different designs ranging from relatively small 20 diode panels to large 120 diode panels. Plants need different light spectrums during all stages of growth, and LED grow lights can produce all ranges of light depending on the type of light and requirement. It is done based on a mix of 1-, 3-, 5-, and 10-watt diodes in the below mentioned colors.
Red - (for flowering)
Blue - (for vegetative growth)
White - (for both vegetative and flowering)
UV - (for both vegetative and flowering)
Applications of an LED grow light panel
A standout feature of LED grow light panels is that they can be installed in a grow tent ,cloning or seedling situation up to a plant’s maturity stage. They serve as a full-function lighting system. They have become very popular among growers due to their flexibility and diversity.
Availability in multiple wattages and voltages
There is no wattage too high or too low when it comes to LED grow light panels. You can find supplemental panels of wattages ranging from less than 100 watts up to 1000 watts, something typical of HPS grow lights. These panels are ideal for both small hobby growers and large commercial growers.
LED grow light panels are efficient and cool
LED grow light panels are much cooler and offer higher efficiency while producing the same spectrum and light intensity of HPS/MH systems. While they are relatively expensive, the energy savings they bring are so significant that the cost can be easily recovered in a short amount of time.
Are LED grow light panels going to make other technologies obsolete?
Despite being a huge step forward in terms of technological advancement, LED grow light panels have still a long way to go. The technologies they are competing with, i.e., gas charges and fluorescent light, have dominated the industry for more than six decades. With this being said, modern LED grow light panels will also have to stand the test of time.
