In indoor gardening and greenhouse processes, a certain level of humidity is required and, in some cases, desirable. However, a balance needs to be achieved in that process. For instance, too much humidity can lead to your plants suffering from some serious damage. If your grow room temperature increases your plants' moisture level, you need to use a dehumidifier.
What is a Dehumidifier?
If you are familiar with a humidifier, then dehumidifiers do the exact opposite. As the name suggests, a dehumidifier is a tool that helps remove moisture from the air and bring it to a desirable level.
When your room has high humidity levels, it can cause moldings and dreaded buds to take place in the plants. It can also slow down the growth of your plants by half.
Perfect Humidity Level for Your Grow Room
As a grower, you should know that all plants have different needs, even when it comes to humidity levels. The humidity levels also change based on what stage the grow is currently. Clones and seedlings require very high humidity levels (around 50-70%). At the flowering stage, the humidity needs to be lower (40-50%), and throughout harvest, you need to maintain this level.
While dehumidifiers have plenty of benefits when it comes to indoor growing, if you are using a hydroponic system, then they are essential. To help control the room's humidity levels, you need proper ventilation, so be sure to use a blower or a fan.
Suitable Dehumidifier Size
The size of a dehumidifier is based on how many pints you need removed. All you need to is use a simple equation to find the right size.
[gallons/day per plant] x [number of plants] x 8 [gallons to pint factor] = [recommended dehumidifier performance]
Still not sure which size is the best for you? Check out our guide on how to find the best size for your dehumidifier. At Groindoor.com, we have everything for everyone. If you are a commercial grower, we have large dehumidifiers, and if you are a hobby grower, we recommend buying the smaller, more portable version.
