If you’re running a grow operation from a small room, it’s best to get a portable dehumidifier. Excess humidity can have dire consequences for your plants. Their growth is stalled as a result of being unable to photosynthesize. Moreover, excess moisture can also cause bud rot and mold.
How do portable dehumidifiers work?
In a small space, the ideal humidity level is 40-50%. Portable dehumidifiers suck in the air, which is passed over cooling coils. This causes the moisture to condense on the coils while the dried air is passed back out into the grow space.
Portable dehumidifiers are ideal for small grow spaces. However, if you have a large growing space, like a warehouse, it’s best to invest in acommercial dehumidifier.
Do I need a dehumidifier?
If you feel that the air in your grow room is damp, there’s a strong chance that you need a dehumidifier. The best way to determine this is by keeping a hygrometerin the grow space. Hygrometers can measure the humidity levels in a grow room. Some are also equipped with thermometers, which help in controlling the temperature as well!
Where to place the dehumidifier in your grow room
If you have a single dehumidifier, the ideal place to put it is in the center of the room. Use hangers to place them adjacent to the grow lights. If that isn't possible, you can always place it next to your plants or under a table. Make sure that you place it away from your air conditioner! The colder air will adversely affect its performance.
