If your grow operation is located in a large grow room or warehouse, it’s best to install a commercial-scale dehumidifier.

Humidity is one of the most crucial things to maintain in a grow room. Lack of humidity and excess humidity are both detrimental to the growth of your plants. Ideal humidity levels differ for different stages of plant growth. Here are the ideal humidity levels for the three different stages.

  • Seedlings/clones: 75 - 85 °F (with an adequate light source), (70% relative humidity)
  • Vegetative growth: 70 - 85 °F, (40 - 60% relative humidity)
  • Flowering: 65 - 80 °F, (40 - 50% relative humidity)

You can monitor humidity levels in your grow room/grow tent through a hygrometer.

Do I really need a commercial-grade dehumidifier?

As we mentioned earlier, if you have a large grow space, you’ll need a commercial-grade dehumidifier. Portable dehumidifiers may be ideal for grow operations located in a small room, but they cannot maintain optimal humidity levels in a larger space.

If your operation requires a commercial-grade dehumidifier, you’ll need to check whether your electrical system can handle it or not. Usually, commercial warehouses or greenhouses have 208- or 240-Volt power sockets.

How does a commercial dehumidifier function?

Commercial dehumidifiers work in essentially the same way as any dehumidifier. First, they suck in the humid air through a fan. This air is passed over coils in the dehumidifier, which is cooled by a refrigerant. As a result, the moisture in the air condenses on the coils, and the cool and dry air releases into a designated space.

You can set up your dehumidifier with or without ducting. If you aren’t sure about what’s the best option for you, reach out to us at Groindoor.com!

How do you determine the right size of a dehumidifier?

The answer to this lies in the amount of water you give to all your plants daily, measured in gallons. So, add up the water you provide each plant and convert this into pints (1 gallon = 8 pints). It’s important to remember that your plants ultimately release all the water that they absorb into the air.

As an example, let’s say that you have 30 plants, and each of them needs 2 gallons of water a day. That is a total of 480 pints. So, you need a dehumidifier that can remove 480 pints of water from the air.
